Founder/Principal

Tom Orazem is the President of Orazem & Scalora Engineering (OSE), a leading engineering firm he co-founded in 1989 alongside Jim Scalora. With a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from Kansas State University, Tom embarked on his career in Dallas, Texas, gaining invaluable experience working on projects nationwide. Holding registrations as a Professional Engineer in multiple states, including Kansas, Tom brings a wealth of expertise to his role.

Throughout his tenure at OSE, Tom has spearheaded numerous significant projects, leaving a lasting impact on Kansas. Notable achievements include the expansion of the University of Kansas Ambler Student Recreation Center, the development of Victor E. Village and Tiger Village Dormitory buildings at Fort Hays State University, and the construction of the College of Business Building at Kansas State University. Tom’s portfolio also encompasses the Kansas Wetlands Education Center at Cheyenne Bottoms, the Kansas Army National Guard Nickell Barracks Training Center in Salina, the Manhattan Housing Authority Apartment Towers Renovation, and the Tallgrass Taphouse Restaurant/Brewery. In addition, he has been involved in the design and renovation of schools, churches, recreation facilities, and manufacturing plants across the region.

As the MEP Principal in Charge, Tom assumes responsibility for

overseeing the design of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. This entails meticulously reviewing documents before submission, supervising the MEP design team, and crafting precise MEP technical specifications.

Tom is deeply rooted in his home state of Kansas, particularly the Manhattan area. While he has also resided in Naples, Italy, for a year and Dallas, Texas, for eight years, his commitment to the local community shines through his involvement in various boards and committees. He has lent his expertise to organizations such as the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, the American Council of Engineering Companies – Kansas, The Good Shepherd Homecare Hospice Flint Hills Beer Fest, The Boy Scouts Coronado Council Pinewood Derby, The Manhattan Area Construction Industry Council, and the Riley County Rural Water District No. 1.

When he’s not immersed in his professional endeavors, Tom cherishes moments spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His personal hobbies include woodworking, hunting and fishing, brewing beer, and embarking on thrilling motorcycle trips.
